- How do I find out the moon phase on my birthday? Enter your date of birth above: the page computes the moon for midday of that day at your location – phase, lit share, moon age and distance. On July 20, 1969 it was Waxing Crescent with 29 % illuminated.
- How accurate is it? The moon phases come from Jean Meeus's astronomical series and are accurate to a few minutes for 1900–2100. The lit share is computed from the positions of the sun and moon. The moon moves about 12° a day, so the value is for the middle of the day.
- What does moon age mean? Moon age counts the days since the last new moon. About 7 days is first quarter, almost 15 days full moon, about 22 days last quarter. On July 20, 1969 the moon was 5.9 days old.
- When will my birthday have the same moon again? Every 19 years the same moon phase falls on almost the same date again – the Metonic cycle. In between it sometimes comes close after 8 or 11 years. The page shows you the next years.
- Why does the moon look different in the southern hemisphere? There it appears upside down: the waxing crescent is lit on the left instead of the right. Choose your place of birth and the page shows the moon as you would have seen it there.
